History
In 1989, Mary Tyler McClenehan, a long-time community activist and the existing community development organizations requested LISC open an office in Richmond. Since 1990, Virginia LISC has provided financing, training and technical assistance to local CDCs first in Richmond, then the Greater Richmond area, and later throughout the Central Virginia region.
- Provided nearly $32 million in loans and grants to CDC customers in support of the development of over 3,328 quality, affordable homes and apartments and 274,000 square feet of community facility and/or commercial real estate, including 2 child care centers and 2 youth football-recreation fields, which serve over 3,500 youth across Richmond.
- Placed over $2 million in equity into health care related developments through our affiliate National Equity Fund, creating access to health care services for underserved neighborhoods.
- Provided over 1,000 hours of capacity building services to enhance the effectiveness of CDC leaders by providing training in multi-year strategic planning, market-based business development, executive coaching and scholarships, board development, team building, and other skills.
