Virginia LISC is working to develop community leaders who can guide civic and nonprofit organizations. With support from National LISC and Virginia Housing Development Authority, two scholarships are provided annually to the leadership development programs of Leadership Metro Richmond and VCU’s Nonprofit School of Excellence. Given in honor of James E. Ukrop, the scholarship recipients are also provided opportunities to engage with leaders in the housing and community development industry.
Additionally, Virginia LISC works in partnership with area universities to create internship opportunities for students who want to learn more about community development and nonprofit work. Through our building sustainable communities initiative, Neighborhood Rising, residents are provided training and support to develop advocacy and leadership skills to increase their effectiveness in giving a voice to neighborhood issues and concerns and to manage collaborative relationships.
