One of our personal favorites on the list is the Speakeasy Grill, owned by Ron Stallings. Back in 2011, Virginia LISC provided a $300,000 restaurant up fit loan to Stallings for the Speakeasy Grill, which is attached to the historic Hippodrome Theater located in Jackson Ward. LISC also provided a $300,000 predevelopment loan for the renovation of the Hippodrome.
Aside from the loan interactions, the Virginia LISC team loves to grab lunch at the Speakeasy Grill. Favorite dishes include the  chicken and waffles, which were recognized in Food and Wine Magazine.
“‘It just hits all the little happy spots on your tongue,’ says Stallings. There’s also a spicy version, bathed in a habanero and jalapeño sauce he calls a ‘first-hand conversation with hell,’” he said in an interview with Food and Wine Magazine.
