The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides capital and technical assistance to nonprofit community development corporations (CDCs) that serve low-income communities in urban and rural areas across the country.
LISC relies on the generous support of individuals and institutions to assist CDCs in their efforts to transform distressed communities into safe and healthy places to live, work, and raise families.

A Powerful Return on Your Charitable Investment

Since 1990, LISC has invested over $70 million of financial capital in Virginia. This investment included grants, loans and equity. This investment has in turn attracted an additional $380 million of public and private investments targeted within lower-income communities. In doing so, we have drawn on the enormous experience of National LISC which has invested over $9 billion in communities nationwide.
Thanks to the LISC model -- assembling private and public resources from a diverse base of supporters and investing them in locally defined priorities -- there is now a burgeoning community development industry in Virginia which has achieved remarkable results.

Virginia LISC has supported the development of 3,330 affordable homes, 300,000 square feet of retail and community facilities, 45,000 square feet of library space, 2 childcare centers, 2 football fields and a community health center. In addition to the bricks and mortar, we have provided over 10,000 hours of management assistance and training to our community development partners.
Our track record has made LISC one of the most trusted community development organizations in the nation. Please help us continue this legacy of success for Virginia.
